Lease bikes

A lease bike is a highly sought-after employee benefit. For employees, it offers an attractive tax advantage, and for employers it can be offered at no additional cost. Through our mobility platform, employees can easily apply for a lease bike, with free choice from hundreds of brands and types.

The lease bike as a smart employee benefit

The popularity of the lease bike is growing rapidly, with the e-bike playing a major role. With an electric bike, commuting distances of up to 15 kilometres are effortlessly covered. The e-bike is increasingly replacing the short car journey — fewer traffic jams, less stress and more physical activity as a result.

As an employer, you offer the lease bike at no extra cost. The monthly lease payments are deducted from the employee's gross salary. The lease bike scheme falls entirely outside the Dutch Work-Related Costs Scheme (WKR). So you provide an attractive benefit — at no additional cost to you.

The lease bike as part of a flexible mobility mix

A lease bike fits seamlessly into a broader mobility mix. Employees who normally use the car for short journeys are more likely to choose the bike when it is properly facilitated. Combine the lease bike with a mobility card for public transport, shared mobility or a mobility budget, and you give employees maximum freedom of choice. Our platform supports all modes of transport in one environment, including the lease bike.

How the lease bike works through our platform

Employees apply for a lease bike through our mobility platform. They choose their own bike — city bike, e-bike, speed pedelec or cargo bike — from an affiliated cycle shop of their choice. Mobility Concept works with various providers, including Lease a Bike.

As an employer, you set the conditions: the maximum lease amount, which bike categories are permitted and which employees are eligible. Once approved, the lease agreement is automatically processed and the monthly deduction submitted to payroll. No extra work for HR.

Sustainable and healthy travel

The lease bike is a popular employee benefit and a direct step towards more sustainable commuting: fewer car kilometres, lower CO₂ emissions and more physical activity in the working day. Employees who cycle to work start the day with more energy and take fewer sick days. For the organisation, the lease bike is tangible proof of a commitment to healthy and sustainable employment.

Veelgestelde vragen over de leasefiets

Can an employee purchase the lease bike at the end of the contract?

JYes, at the end of the lease period, typically 36 months, an employee can in most cases purchase the lease bike at an agreed residual value. The exact terms depend on the lease provider.

What happens to the lease bike when an employee leaves the organisation?

When an employee leaves, the lease agreement comes to an end. In some cases, the employee can continue the agreement privately or return the bike. The exact process varies by provider. As an employer, you determine how this is handled when setting up the scheme.

Is an employee still entitled to a travel allowance if they have a lease bike?

On days when an employee cycles to work on the lease bike, no tax-free mileage allowance can be paid for that journey. On days when another mode of transport is used, the tax-free allowance applies as normal. If you wish to provide an allowance for lease bike days as well, this will be a taxable benefit. How you structure this is entirely up to you.
